The Simpsons Arrives in Psyonix's Hit Game: But It's Not the Car Fans Are Hoping For

It was previously announced that The Simpsons was teaming up with Fortnite, but that's not the only place where enthusiasts can experience the universe of Springfield. The beloved show is coming over to the popular soccer-driving hybrid, bringing along an in-game car skin that will also be compatible in Fortnite. That said, if gamers will truly desire to use it is a different matter, as fans have their hearts set on just one Springfield vehicle the community is itching to drive, and this new offering isn't that one.

The Dream Vehicle

Although most players would undoubtedly love to compete while driving Homer's custom creation—the famously flawed car Homer designed himself in the classic installment "the one where he meets Herb"—regrettably, that isn't what players are receiving. We aren't even getting the massive SUV, the heavy-duty vehicle featured in the tenth season. Rather, players will obtain the Simpsons' standard beat-up four-door, which has been in the family since the show's early days. Even though this particular car has accumulated plenty of miles, it stands as an recognizable element of the series. And for players who analyze Rocket League car hitboxes, the trusty sedan uses the same hitbox as the Dominus.

More Than Just a Car

And it's not the sole cosmetic from the series arriving in Rocket League. This limited-time event will additionally feature a set of challenges to earn more goodies, all of which are inspired by the show. As detailed in a press release, the challenges will task participants to "achieve a certain number of centers and clears as there are the show's years on air, collect boost pickups as if your navigation is set to the Simpson house, and travel a specific distance worthy of picking up the perfect donuts!"

While the complete list of earnable items hasn't been disclosed, here is what's been announced so far:

  • Blinky topper
  • Homer's hedge-themed banner
  • Garbage-themed wheels
  • 20,000 experience points for each challenge

If the key art is a reliable guide, it seems players will also get rims featuring a TV displaying the show's title sequence, Kang and Kodos topper, a frosted doughnut trail, and rocket boosts themed to burning tires and Krusty Burger.

Event Timing and Fortnite Connection

This event coincides with the extensive The Simpsons takeover of Fortnite's island, which includes a completely new map of Springfield, as well as a month-long Battle Pass. The Rocket League x The Simpsons celebration launches on Saturday, Nov. 1 and concludes on Nov. 17.
