Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's ten-game without a victory start to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are among the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is presently at another club, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they begin the search of hiring a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is out of work which means the club would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
