Dominant Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break following the birth of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
